Alexander J. Davie is a corporate and securities attorney in Nashville, Tennessee. Many businesses look to Alex as their outside “general counsel” for day-to-day legal needs as well as their trusted adviser on high-stakes transactions, such as capital raising, partnership buyouts and disputes, technology transactions, and mergers and acquisitions. He also assists tech companies with their ongoing legal needs, such as vendor and customer agreements, website terms of service, SAAS agreements, and regulatory compliance.
Alex is active in Nashville’s startup community as a member of the board of directors of the Nashville Business Incubation Center and as a mentor at the Nashville Entrepreneur Center, and he participates in numerous other events geared towards making Nashville a nationally ranked location for starting a business.
Professionals within the private investment fund industry benefit from the expertise Alex gained when he served as general counsel to a fund manager. He drafts the formation documents for private funds, including hedge funds, private equity funds, and real estate investment partnerships. He also counsels investment advisers on their regulatory obligations, such as initial state or SEC registration and ongoing compliance.
Alex received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics at the University of Pennsylvania, graduating magna cum laude and his Juris Doctor degree at Duke University School of Law, graduating with high honors. While in law school, he served as the Managing Editor of the Duke Law & Technology Review. In addition, Alex received a Master of Education degree in Organizational Leadership from Peabody College at Vanderbilt University.
Alex began his career at Ballard Spahr LLP and later at Hangley Aronchick Segal & Pudlin, both of which are based in Philadelphia, PA. Later, Alex served as vice president and general counsel to a private investment fund manager. In 2011, he returned to private practice and founded Riggs Davie PLC.
Alex has experience serving on the boards of a number of civic organizations, including the Nashville Business Incubation Center. He is also active in the Nashville Bar Association, serving as the chair of its Business Law Committee.
